Tucker Stone of Nobrow Press reads Punisher: War Journal

Spoiler Alert: We hope you love hackneyed cliches such as 'level up' and 'spoiler alert' cuz we got 'em in spades!

Merry Holidays from the Reboot Comic Book Club! We're celebrating this joyous occasion with friend of the podcast Tucker Stone! He's taken time away from his duties at Nobrow Press to talk some old Civil War-era Punisher: War Journal comics.

This run is called Jigsaw and was created by Matt FractionRick RemenderHoward ChaykinEdgar Delgado, and Joe Caramagna

But we also talk about Bergen Street's continuation as publisher of books like COPRA and Revenger, new offerings from Nobrow in 2016, and people leaving comics on the doorstep (damn hooligans).

Sina Grace of Self-Obsessed reads Henshin

Here is an episode we recorded a while ago but weren't able to post until today! Hooray!

Sina Grace is an old friend of the show and he returns to discuss his latest auto-biographical release, Self-Obsessed from Image Comics.

A collection of works ranging throughout Sina's time on earth, from early comics testing out the form to his latest and greatest work yet. The strips, stories, and essays within paint an earnest portrait of an artist who uses humor, self-deprecation, and fantasy to showcase painful truths about himself. It's a great read and well worth your time.

But because this is a book club we made Sina pick something else to read. In keeping with the theme, he chose Ken Niimura's own collection of semi-biographical stories Henshin!

Plus we talk about Jenny Lewis because we both LOOOVE Jenny Lewis.

Next week will see Tucker Stone of Nobrow return to the show to discuss Punisher War Journal: Jigsaw and much more!

Nick Marino of Holy F*cked reads Nothing!

It's the holidays! We hate the holidays! Why? Because who wants to spend family time when there's fantasy football playoffs and Star Wars movies and Black Friday sales and opiate dependencies and SO MUCH MORE.

After a slight delay, the Reboot Comic Book Club is back and we're checking in with friend Nick Marino, writer of Action Lab/Danger Zone's books Holy Fuck and Holy Fucked with artist Daniel Arruda Massa.

Normally we have a book to talk about but Nick and I were just so damn excited to get the opportunity to chat, we didn't even NEED a pick of the week. Instead you can hear us rant about Secret Wars, Bendis-isms, hate-reading comics, and much more jaded comic-book-guy-isms!

Next week, Sina Grace returns to the podcast to discuss his autobiographical OGN, Self-Obsessed, a shared obsession with Jenny Lewis and Rilo Kiley, and Ken Niimura's English-translation of Henshin!

Ann Uland, Emily Willis, and Cat Batka read KAPTARA v1

Sometimes, Space gonna Space. S'what Space does. But c'mon, Space, why you gotta be like that?

We ask the hard questions around here and to dig deep we require some help. This week the Reboot Comic Book Club welcomes Ann Uland, Emily Willis, and Cat Batka of the creator-owned gender bending retelling of Julius Ceaser's story Cassius!

The group also discusses their other projects, including the status of Willis and Uland's ongoing mystery (and erotic!) webcomic Grave Impressions!

And to get to the heart of our opening question, we discuss Chip Zdarsky and Kagan McLeod's space odyssey Kaptara. The hit Image Comic deals with wayward explorers surviving an exotic-yet-hostile alien landscape, capturing the same spirit in stories such as Flash Gordon and John Carter.

Next week, Sina Grace returns to the podcast to discuss his autobiographical OGN, Self-Obsessed, a shared obsession with Jenny Lewis and Rilo Kiley, and Ken Niimura's English-translation of Henshin!

Next week will see Nick Marino join the show to talk comics! and after a scheduling mishap, the Sina Grace/Henshin episode will go up next week!

Because Ethics in Comics Journalism: Full Disclosure, Joe and Ann met at the CBLDF party at SDCC '15 in July. Now, they're friends. Joe commissioned Ann to create a 10 page mini-comic that was completed in September. If you're so inclined, you'll be able to find it and read it for free. Use your Google skills.

James Asmus reads WE CAN NEVER GO HOME v1

Old friend James Asmus returns to the show! And he has a bone to pick with Crackle's on-demand video service! So if you're the Director of Content of Crackle, maybe skip this episode because James is on a warpath!

Outside of Crackle's improving offerings we also discuss his continued work in the Valiant universe, returning to Marvel with a flagship series, creator-owned work, subtweeting insults, and much more!

Plus, hear us discuss the hit Black Mask Studios book (from former guest, artist Josh HoodWe Can Never Go Home! The book, co-written by Asmus' friend Matt Rosenberg and Patrick Kindlon

Next week, Ann Uland, Emily Willis, and Cat Batka join the show to discuss Kaptara!

Oct 26, 2015

It's our first regular episode on our new home and schedule and we are more than happy to use this occasion to invite our old friend Chase Magnett to discuss some awesome comics once again.

New books like Karnak and Wic+Div are discussed. We talk about ethics, intent, and advertising in comics blogging and journalism. And we hope you like hearing grown men gush about Nicholas Kristoff columns, because dammit that's what you're getting.

We also discuss This Week's Book, Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis, Darrick Robertson, et al. It's Hunter S. Thompson meets Tom Wolfe meets Nicholas Kristoff meets a metric fuckton of ayahuasca and cocaine. And you're trying to tell me this is '90s Ellis? JFC.

Next week James Asmus returns to the program to discuss We Can Never Go Home from Black Mask Studios! WUB WUB!

Katie Cook and Sara Richard read ARCHIE

Can you believe that this is our 51st episode and it's only the second time a creator has been honest about the demonic blood rituals and animal sacrifices required to succeed in this industry?

This truth-bomb comes courtesy of guest Sara Richard who is joined by Katie Cook, continuing our My Little Pony party podcast! Sara is cover artist extraordinaire on the Pony books, as well as others, while Katie was the long-time series writer on Friendship is Magic, as well as cartoonist of her own webcomic Gronk

The relaunched Archie is on this week's docket, from A-List creators Fiona Staples, Mark Waid, Jen Vaughn, Andre Szymanowicz and Jack Morelli.

Katie and Sara also discuss other projects, the aforementioned animal sacrifices, crazy fans and MUCH MORE! Take a listen!

Tune in next time when Chase Magnett rejoins the occasion for a show so big, we may have an identity crisis...
