Kendrick Lamar or Childish Gambino? E-wrestling or Marilyn Monroe fanfic? Peter Parker or Miles Morales? Batgirl-ghazi or 'vocal minorites'? All this plus the good ole' fashion book club you've come to love on this week's episode of the Bleed.
We're bringing Vito Delsante to the party, writer of Action Lab's comic STRAY. Vito delves into the comics origin, the Kickstarter campaign, and how his own personal struggles helped shape both the story and the man he is today.
And we're reading the latest noir thriller from the classic team of Sean Phillips and Ed Brubaker with phenomenal coloring from Elizabeth Breitweiser, Image Comics' the Fade Out.
Next week John Layman joins the program to discuss the hit manga (damn you, Sam!) ONE-PUNCH MAN by One!
This week we're reading a classic with up-and-coming badass DONNY CATES! Cates writes titles such as the Ghost Fleet and Buzzkill for Dark Horse Comics with quite a few coming out the gate in 2015. IT IS THE YEAR OF DONNY, ya'll.
He's chosen a great book to read for the podcast, I KILL GIANTS by Joe Kelly and J.M. Ken Niimura from Image Comics. And no, we aren't crying, there's just something in our eyes. Dust or something. Shut up! NO, you're a baby.
Also on the podcast, we appeal to Rob Liefeld's sense of reason (#UnblockDonnyCates!), the continuation of the world of Buzzkill, we rekindle our love of Frank Barbiere, and Cates spills all of the Secret Wars secrets that will surely cause the Mickey Mouse Silence Squad to pay him a visit.
Next week Vito Delsante joins the program to discuss the Fade Out!
Second episode in one week?! It's like Christmas! (just ask our Boston listeners. /sickburn)
We are joined by Adam McGovern for this week's show, and we are on the eve of the release of the first collection of his comic NIGHTWORLD! Written by McGovern, with art by creator of the concept Paolo Leandri and colors by Dom Regan, Nightworld Vol. 1: Midnight Sonata is a Kirby-esque romp through the afterlife with an interesting cast of characters.
Speaking of afterlifes, we're discussing Afterlife With Archie this week! The not-so-grim-and-gritty reboot of America's Favorite Teen topped many 'Best Of' lists last year and it did so with good reason. Francesco Francavilla and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's reimagining of Riverdale was one of the most refreshing comics of 2014.
Next week sees Donny Cates join the podcast. Cates is the immensely talented writer behind titles like BUZZKILL and THE GHOST FLEET from Dark Horse. He chose and oldie but still a goodie, in the form of I KILL GIANTS from Joe Kelly and J.M. Ken Niimura.
After a brief hiatus (damn you, family obligations!), the Bleed is BACK with TWO new episodes this week!
First up is Michael Moreci, returning guest and friend of the program. He's writing great comics such as Roche Limit, the Burning Fields, Hoax Hunters, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes! Seriously, what a great person to geek out with, and a great writer to boot.
This week we're discussing Nowhere Men from Image Comics, written by Eric Stephenson, art by Nate Bellegarde and Jordie Bellaire, design and lettering by Fonografiks. It's an amazing comic and if there is some diety out there listening to the pitious prayers of wayward souls, that cosmic force will perform miracles to make sure this comic is published once again. #BRINGBACKNOWHEREMEN
Coming up this week, we will also be discussing Afterlife with Archie with Adam McGovern. McGovern's recently collected work NIGHTWORLD is also coming out from Image Comics, so be on the look out for that!
