We welcome Lawrence Marvit to this week's episode of the Bleed!
Lawrence is a cartoonist and educator, nominated for an Eisner Award for his work on his original graphic novel from Slave Labor Graphics, Sparks: An Urban Fairytale.
Currently, he is self-publishing an ongoing story about gods and what happens when people stop believing in them. Approaching the drama and intrigue of gods through the eye of criminal noire storytelling, Myths from the Underground is one of the most innovative and creative webcomics today (and it's pretty to look at, too).
Lawrence brings with him the second entry to our reading list from creative mastermind Warren Ellis. We're reading his collaboration with John Cassady and Laura Martin, PLANETARY.
Specifically, Lawrence wanted to read issue #8 from the series, titled the Day the Earth Turned Slower. An ode to the horror films produced during the Red Scare (and so much more), this single comic is a perfect amalgam of what made the entire series of Planetary so special.
Next week we will welcome Jimmie Robinson to the program, writer and artist on such prolific titles as Bomb Queen, Five Weapons, and coming next month from Image Comics, THE EMPTY!
We will be reading a fellow comic from the Shadowline imprint, RAT QUEENS! So sound off on social media with #theBleedBC! Or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org!

This week our friend James Asmus is joining the program!
James is the writer of Valiant titles the Delinquents and Quantum and Woody MUST DIE! He's also done a bunch of Marvel stuff including an excellent run on Gambit as well as issues of Superior Foes of Spider-Man.
And he's brought along an excellent comic to read as well. What's that, you ask? Well, if you must know (and you probably should if you're going to listen to us rant for 90 minutes), we are reading the excellent Scalped by Jason Aaron and R.M. Guerra!
Next week will be a slight change of pace as we discuss a single issue for once, Planetary #8 with Eisner-nomined comic creator Lawrence Marvit! So dig in your back issues for that classic from Warren Ellis and John Cassidy, and if you haven't read Lawrence's EXCELLENT webcomic, Myths from the Underground, check it out HERE! And chime in with your own thoughts with #theBleedBC!
We're back from our Winter Break and BETTER THAN EVER! To help us kick off the New Year, we brought on Frank Barbiere. If you haven't heard of Frank, go back and relive the year 2014 because you were obviously doing something wrong.
Frank writes the extremely successful Five Ghosts from Image Comics, as well as Solar, Man of the Atom for Dynamite/Gold Key, and Avengers World for Marvel among many others. We talk to Frank about his love of comics and why he does what he does, how he plans to top his amazing year in 2014, and the status of the Five Ghosts pilot over at the SyFy Network (or is it Sci-Fi?).
This week, we are discussing the excellent Marvel relaunch of Moon Knight by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey, and Jordie Bellaire. Six issues of done-in-one fun, yet weaving a greater tapestry in the complex life of Marc Spector, Moon Knight is one of the best releases of 2014. Want to hear the guys geek out? OF COURSE YOU DO!
Next week we will be discussing Scalped with our great friend James Asmus! So join in and hear us crack jokes, that's really all we're good at. And chime in with your own thoughts with #theBleedBC!
It's that time of the week. So set your pulls down for a bit and chat with the folks at the Bleed, Bleeding Cool's regular book club.
This time we're joined by James Asmus, who writes hilarious books like the Delinquents, Quantum and Woody, the End Times of Bram and Ben, and more! Also joining us is Omar Spahi, CEO of OSSM Comics and writer of Thaniel and Xenoglyphs!
The group will be discussing another veritable funny book, the first volume of Atomic Robo by Brian Clevinger, Scott Wegener, Ronda Pattison, and Jeff Powell!
Have a gem of wisdom you'd like to share? Insightful observation to impart? Join in on the book club with #thebleedbc . Watch the live hangout every Wednesday or download the podcast when it goes on the air.
In our second episode, we are joined by Brandon Montclare, writer of the hit Image Comics series Rocket Girl, and Anwar Newton, a stand-up comedian and depraved viral sensation.
Unfortunately, this episode also marks the last regular appearance by Erik Grove, whose time commitments won’t permit him to join every week. We will have him on in the future, rest assured, and his contributions to getting the Bleed up and running are greatly appreciated. Thanks for everything, Erik!

It’s the first episode of The Bleed (and by “first”, we mean “this is not a test”) with author Ryan Burton and scientist Katie Graves joining in the discussion. Burton is the writer of the new Image Comics series, Dark Engine. Graves is a Histology Technician in a Pathology lab (HINT: microscopes!). It was a great time had by all. Dissenting opinions, unique observations, and critical insight into a defining piece of work; WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? Don’t answer that, please!
This week we're reading SECONDS by Bryan Lee O'Malley and Nathan Fairbairn. The original graphic novel was released by Oni Press and is the first follow-up to the Scott Pilgrim series by O'Malley.
Next week we will be joined by Brandon Montclare of the hit Image Comics series Rocket Girl, and Anwar Newton, a stand-up comedian and depraved mushroom eating viral sensation. The group will be discussing the latest news, the week’s best comics, and then the meat and ‘taters: discussing East of West by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta.

Our second test episode, discussing the Eisner award winning series SEX CRIMINALS from Image Comics.
Here is our pilot episode, or "proof of concept."
AKA, we weren't as good then.
